More on the Virtue of Courtesy
On the Virtue of Courtesy I have previously written to be generous in your interpretation of the actions of others. Today I will expand and explain:
Being generous means to give the benefit of the doubt whenever anyone does something that you question. If you assume the best, most positive intent in their actions, you will be amazed at how your whole approach to a person or problem improves. You should move beyond the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Remember that defaming the honor or behavior of another speaks more about your character than theirs. The true purpose of courtesy is to make everyone feel that there is something great in them. You should strive to be just as enthusiastic about their success as you are about your own.
In the end the goal is to be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too confident to permit the presence of trouble.
