Commentary on Lessons From Star Wars

Commentary on "Lessons From Star Wars"

"Trust your instinct and intuition."

I fully agree.  Millions of years of successful evolution have gone into giving us a finely honed set of instincts and intuitions.  Trust them.  Use them to temper your actions and reactions.

"I have a bad feeling about this."

"When it comes to it, family is most important."

This is true as far as it goes, but must be quantified ethically with the concept that we must always do the greatest good in the context of the big picture of the world.  Luke was determined to save the good man that was his father, because he believed that, with Anakin at his side, the Emperor could not stand.  Luke went to Vader ready to do whatever it took to achieve that redemption.  He was prepared to risk death at Vader's hands because he was confident that, in the face of having to kill his own son, the good inside Vader would win and trigger the return of the good man that was Anakin.  This, I believe, is the true meaning behind the title of Episode 6: Return of the Jedi [Anakin Skywalker].

"There is good in him.  I have felt it."

"Don't let impossible odds hold you back."

You should always let consideration of the odds temper your selection of a course of action.  Attacking the Death Star using only snub fighters would be suicide without prior knowledge of a specific exhaust vent weakness.

“They have no idea we’re coming. They have no reason to expect us. If we can make it to the ground we’ll take the next chance and the next, on and on until we win or the chances are spent.”

"We need a few good people with different skills to us around us."

Surround yourself with people who can do things you can't.  If your family, extended family, and friends group has people with-- to put it into gaming terms-- different classes and professions, your chances of surviving and flourishing are greatly improved.

"Mastering your emotions is essential to keep you on the right path in life."

Do not let your emotions rule you, but again, your emotions are part of the culmination of millions of years of successful evolution.  Use them in your decision making process.

"Fear is the path to the dark side."

"Greatness takes a lot of learning, practice, and willpower."

I have nothing to add here.  Put in the time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears.

"In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way. A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view. Smaller in number are we, but larger in mind."

"A little hope goes a long way."

AGREED!!!!

"Be the spark that ignites the flame that burns the Empire down!"
